Gnome Panel Freezes

I’ve updated to Ubuntu 8.04. It worked fine.
Only I notice some little annoying problems. One of them is that the gnome-panel keeps freezing quite frequently, possibly due to the extreme unreliable network we have in our company. Anyway to solve that I fount that following command works:

$ pkill gnome-panel

It makes the gnome-panel to restart and let you continue working.

    Here a discussion about this problem that could point you to the solution.

    It works! Thanks — you’ve saved me tones of hours.

    I think it’s due to the weather applet (it hangs while connecting to download the weather update, and the panel freezes). Try to remove that.

    I too have an issue where the panel freezes most likely due to a network timeout when on a shotty lan. I’d love to find out the cause of this problem and get the bug fixed. Any pointers in the right direction if you’ve solved this would be appreciated. I experience this on a stock fedora 14 install.
